Equipment and Props
Selecting the right equipment is crucial for establishing the style and atmosphere of my horror film. For my opening, the gear used will allow for a blend of high cinematic footage and suspense to be built. These technical choices are key or the film will turn out low quality and difficult to watch.
Equipment list
Phone- My iPhone 13 will serve as the camera during the entire opening film. There is a lot of walking scenes so the portability of a phone.
Lights- I will use a multitude of lights to manipulate shadows and create lighting in scenes. This include flashlights, lamps, LED lights, and streetlights.
Tripod- Necessary for steady shots of the interrogation to make it seem like raw footage. Will be used for close up shots to best portray Bob's facial reactions.
Microphone- I will use small microphones connected to my phone and their clothes to capture diegetic sounds and allow for clear audio throughout.
Editing software- My chosen editing software is Adobe Premiere Pro. Other design elements will be created in Canva.
Props
Props are a key element of the Mise en scene in my film. They provide the show don't tell context to the audience and build out the atmosphere. In my film, props are used to create the contrast of safety vs danger. Each item was selected to show how a normal life can switch to horror. They build up the horror genre by making the audience feel unstable when seeing the items.
Axe- The primary weapon used by the antagonist. Will be in screen during entire scene to build up the threat.
Rope- Used as a way to capture the mom by tying her up. Will serve as a physical restraint and increase tension.
Chair- What the mom will sit on and be tied to. Creates the trapped feeling typically scene in interrogation scenes.
Tape- Used to muffle the mom and limits her ability to scream for help.
Found phone- Used to drive the main plot by holding the footage that is found.
Grocery bag- Used as Bob buys items from a store and creates the sense of normality.
Trash Can- Will serve as a jump scare for Bob and the audience.
