Selection of Genre
Selection of Genre
Choosing the genre of my opening scene was a large process that made my think about what I personally had passion for and balancing out which ideas would work the best. After deep consideration and brainstorming, I have decided on Horror as the main genre. I initially considered several other genres such as thriller or action because I enjoy a fast paced story and high energy sequences. However, my favorite type of movie my whole life has always been Horror movies. I wanted to lean toward a darker, more unsettling film that I felt were restricted if I picked the other genres. Horror is simple on paper, but I love the way producers use different techniques to create tension in the film. Anything that is on the screen is important and can be used in one way or another to advance the story.
The thing I love most about Horror movies is how it makes me feel. Most genres don't make me on the edge of my seat and heart racing like Horror does. By choosing Horror, I can experiment with effects and sound to try and give that feeling back to my audience. I have a plot in mind that is both scary and suspenseful in more ways than one. I want to emphasize psychological horror with making the atmosphere unsettling and the audience not knowing what it next. Plot development will be further explored in future posts. This genre gives me the perfect opportunity to explore all aspects in story building and technical elements so an immersive opening scene can be created.
